A walk-in cooler running warm doesn’t necessarily mean the refrigeration system is failing.

- A door that does not close completely on its own
- Gaps around the door when it is closed
- Condensation or frost around the opening
- A damaged door sweep or hardware

3. Look at How Products Are Stored
Air needs to circulate throughout a walk-in cooler.
Boxes, shelving, or inventory placed too close to the evaporator or blocking airflow can create uneven temperatures and make it harder for the cooler to maintain the setpoint.
If the problem began after a large delivery or a change in how the cooler is being stocked, take a look at whether airflow paths have been restricted.

4. Pay Attention to Ice Buildup

5. Listen for Changes in How the Equipment Runs
Employees who work around refrigeration equipment every day often notice changes before anyone else.
A new vibration, clicking, rattling, fan noise, or unusually quiet piece of equipment can provide an early indication that something has changed.
Also pay attention to how often the refrigeration system is running. Equipment that suddenly seems to run continuously or cycles much differently than usual may be compensating for a developing problem.
6. Look for Water or Unusual Condensation
Water around a walk-in cooler can have several possible causes.
Condensation may result from warm, humid air entering through a poorly sealed door. Water can also be related to drainage, defrost, evaporator, or other refrigeration issues.
Where the water is appearing and when it occurs can help a technician narrow down the cause.
7. Consider What Has Changed
Sometimes the best clue is not inside the refrigeration equipment.
Think about what changed around the time the temperature problem started.
Was there a large delivery? Has the door been opened more frequently? Was inventory rearranged? Has the room surrounding the cooler become unusually warm? Has the equipment recently been serviced or adjusted?
